Pathways of carbohydrate degradation in Pseudomonas fluorescens.
The unique ability of heterotrophic bacteria to observations, particularly in the pseudomonads degrade carbohydrates rapidly for the production and acetobacter species suggest that carbohydrate of energy and intermediates for biosynthesis, oxidation involves completely different reactions. often in preference to other natural organic Among these are the observations of Bernhauer compounds, has ...
متن کاملThe recalcitrance of clofibric acid to microbial degradation
The presence of pharmaceutical compounds and their metabolites in aquatic systems has become a concern in the past few years due, in part, to their ubiquity in the environment. However, at present, the persistence and ecotoxicity of many of these compounds remains unknown. Clofibric acid is the active metabolite of clofibrate, a lipid regulator. It is detected in most aquatic systems where phar...
متن کاملMicrobial transformations of ferulic acid by Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Pseudomonas fluorescens.
Saccharomyces cerevisiae (dry baker's yeast) and Pseudomonas fluorescens were used to convert trans-ferulic acid into 4-hydroxy-3-methoxystyrene in 96 and 89% yields, respectively. The metabolites were isolated by solid-phase extraction and analyzed by thin-layer chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography. The identities of the metabolites were determined by 1H- and 13C-nuclear m...
متن کاملMicrobial Degradation of Asphalt.
Organisms of the genera Pseudomonas, Chromobacterium, and Bacillus capable of degrading asphalt were isolated by enrichment cultures. The asphalt degradation by these organisms varied from 3 to 25% after incubation for 1 week. The effects of temperature, pH, and atmosphere of incubation on asphalt degradation were investigated and were shown to vary with different organisms on the same substrate.
